Eugenio,

Looking back at my notes, the ZS1 maps were made by first thresholding on
pixel values above some value that fall within pre-defined regions of the
galactic plane (including other 'interesting' regions at high latitudes),
replacing these with 'nans' (since my filtering software implicitly omits
these), then running a median filter with size tuned to the characteristic
width of a zodi dust band. Holes and 'nans' get filled in automatically
due to the finite width of the filter, but for regions where the filter
couldn't "reach", I replace the pixels with a local mode. This smooth
"background/zodi" map was then subtracted from the input map. I've glossed
over many details, but this was the overall method.

Note - I would be careful on the scientific usefulness of these maps.
In other words, I'm not sure to what degree (and on what scale) background
structure of interest around the galactic plane was suppressed. I don't
think it's that bad, but I haven't checked. Since I'm on the hook to
regenerate these maps, I will use another less-riskier method that uses
a combination of a zodi-model and versions of the DIRBE maps that
include the diffuse zodi emission. I don't know if any of this will work.

Eugenio,

Let me just clarify a little more about these all-sky maps.

I said below that the "_ZS0" versions are those that include the *full* zodi.
This is not strictly true. A diffuse (very low spatial-frequency) component
was subtracted to accentuate the 3 zodi dust bands. The "ZS_1" versions
attempt to further suppress these dust bands.

f.y.i. - the WISE P.I. did not like the version that had the dust bands
(even though I thought they were really "cool").

Alberto and Eugenio,

You can find "raw" all-sky maps in Aitoff-Hammer/galactic projection in
FITS format for each band here:

http://wise2.ipac.caltech.edu/staff/fmasci/allskymaps/

** Note: versions with _ZS0 are those that include the full zodi,
and those with _ZS1 are those where I attempted to remove a low-pass
filtered representation of the zodi.

These were made using all 18,240 Atlas tiles from the all-sky release
(per band).
