WMOPS MPC File (November 30, 2009) [mop01 WSDC D-I169, vsn 1.0] Interface Name: WMOPS MPC-file Type of Interface: ASCII text file (fixed-width columns) Written By: WMOPS(wmops, wmopsqa)_________________J. Dailey(CogE), J. Bauer (Sci), T. Grav(Sci) Read By: WMOPS(wmopsqa, mpc_iod)_______________J. Dailey, J. Bauer, T. Grav QA____________________________________D. Kirkpatrick Minor Planet Center___________________T. Spahr, G. Williams DESCRIPTION: The WMOPS MPC File contains the astrometric observational information used by the Minor Planet Center to conduct orbit fits and identify new objects from their astrometry. Each observation entry follows the strict 2-line reporting format for satellite-based detections as spelled out in detail by the MPC (see http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/info/SatelliteObs.html). For the case of WMOPS, each entry is considered as unidentified, as requested by the Minor Planet Center, so that the MPC may make their own associations for known objects. The WMOPS routine (wmops) first generates a complete list of detections associated with candidate objects with a ".mpc" suffix. The wmopsqa routine generates updated versions of this file based on the tracklet vetting process. Two final versions are created for delivery to the MPC, one with "sound" tracklets that are very likely object tracklets, based on automated QA checks, and one with "anomalous" object candidates that have been identified as true objects from by-eye evaluations of the tracklets. The information is extracted from the level 1b mdex table files. The file contains ASCII text data arranged in columns of fixed width. The first 3 lines identify the Observer ID number (COD), the stellar-astrometric-position reference net (NET), the measurer (MEA), the observer (OBS) and an acknowledgement for additional contributors to the effort (Ack), followed by two blank lines and the data for the objects. Each entry has 2 lines per observation, a line describing the time, sky-position and predicted visual magnitude of the object, and a second line describing the spacecraft position at the time of observation. Description of Lines and Columns: Columns Use 1 - 5 Blank - position for known object designation, N/A for WMOPS 6 - 12 WMOPS preliminary Object ID 13 Blank 14 Blank - Special Note position, N/A for WMOPS 15 "S" for line 1, "s" for line 2 16 - 32 Date of observation "YYYY MM DD.ddddd ". On Line 1: 33 - 44 Observed RA (J2000.0) 45 - 56 Observed Decl. (J2000.0) 57 - 65 9X Must be blank 66 - 71 F5.3,A1 visual-band magnitude estimate 72 - 77 X Must be blank 78 - 80 A3 Observatory code (COD) On Line 2: 33 "1" indicates that parallax information is conveyed using the vector from the geocenter to the spacecraft in km and with respect to the equatorial J2000.0 system. "2" indicates that parallax information is conveyed using the vector from the geocenter to the spacecraft in AU and with respect to the equatorial J2000.0 system. For parallax type "1": 35 - 45 X component of vector (sign in column 35, decimal point in column 41) 47 - 57 Y component of vector (sign in column 47, decimal point in column 53) 59 - 69 Z component of vector (sign in column 59, decimal point in column 65) For parallax type "2": 35 - 45 X component of vector (decimal point in column 37) 47 - 57 Y component of vector (decimal point in column 49) 59 - 69 Z component of vector (decimal point in column 61) 70 - 77 Blank, must contain spaces (ASCII 32) 78 - 80 Observatory code ----- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 EXAMPLE: ----- COD 245 NET 2MASS MEA NEOWISE OBS NEOWISE Ack WISE Obs.
